What does it really mean to allow yourself to FEEL

What does it really mean to allow yourself to FEEL your feelings?⁣
⁣
I always thought I was “good” at this. That because I was emotionally aware and could identify in detail how and why I was feeling a certain way, that I was effectively FEELING my feelings and processing my emotions. ⁣
⁣
But only recently have I realized that the process of getting so cerebral about why I’m feeling a certain way...going into detective mode and attempting to make sense of it, tends to bypass the real FEELING of my feelings 🙃⁣
⁣
So now I’m learning how I can sit with my emotions and really feel into them. Not with the intention to understand or make sense of them in an effort to change them or get rid of them, but to simply allow myself to feel. With the only intention being to experience the holistic imprint that the current emotion has on me. ⁣
⁣
These are all questions I’m asking myself when an uncomfortable emotion comes up:⁣
⁣
👁 How does it feel in my body? Where do I feel the energy of this uncomfortable emotion being held? Does it feel like tension, tightness, buzzing? Does it feel sharp or dull? ⁣
👁 What does this energy and emotion have to show or tell me? (Maybe it’s a word or a knowing or an image that comes through - simply allow it and don’t overthink it) ⁣
👁 Can I welcome it with love and compassion?⁣
⁣
Our emotions are held in the body, and our bodies have so much valuable information to give us, if only we’ll listen 💫✨🙏🏼
